DO YOUR SHEETS WRINKLE?

Anything made of 100% cotton - from bedding to clothing - WILL have some wrinkling. It's unavoidable. "Wrinkle free cotton" requires harsh chemicals which wash out eventually causing the wrinkles to return. A couple of suggestions to REDUCE wrinkling is to 1) never over stuff the dryer 2) dry on medium or low heat 3) remove immediately after the drying cycle is completed 4) use a "wrinkle guard" dryer setting if available.

DOES HIGHER THREAD COUNT MEAN BETTER QUALITY?

Simply put, no. Thread count is relative to the WEIGHT of the fabric, not the quality. Thread count perception is commonly used as a marketing ploy to charge inflated prices. Quality is determined by the construction of the fabric. "Ply" is where some thread count confusion lies. The number of yarns entwined into a single yarn make up the "ply". The most common types of ply found in most bed sheets are single-ply and two-ply. Single-ply fabrics use one yarn, while materials with two-ply consist of two yarns entwined. The ply of the sheet fabric may mean the difference between a stated 250 and 500 thread count — with the 250 coming from single-ply and the larger 500 coming from two-ply. However, counting the entwined two-ply yarn as double the thread count is misleading, as it just means the yarns are more twisted together, not softer or improve the feel of the fabric. At Gotcha Covered, we proudly only use single-ply and true thread counts in long staple yarns for the softest hand.

IS YOUR COTTON PRE-SHRUNK?

Our 100% cotton sheeting is NOT preshrunk. We cut our bedding to allow for the expected shrinkage. Count on approximately 5% when following washing instructions. Pre-shrinking cotton requires chemicals which we like keeping to a minimum.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPLIT HEAD & SPLIT?

Split HEAD (or Split Top) Beds are only split approximately 34" from the HEAD -- or TOP -- of the mattress. Our split head bedding is designed specifically for these special mattresses.

Split Beds are two individual adjustable mattresses that can operate independently but are together to form one bed. Our split bedding always has two fitteds, one for each mattress.

WHY AREN'T YOUR ORGANIC SHEETS OFFERED IN COLORS?

Our organic philosophy: keep it simple. The cotton is scoured with hot water. That's it. As with most natural products, natural cotton fabric will have slight imperfections or "flecks" which are pieces of the cotton pod deposited during production. Don't worry, you can't feel them at all, in fact they are a nice reminder that the fabric is undyed and natural.

While "low-impact dyes" sound great, and will withstand the rigours of laundering, they are synthetic and petro-chemical based. "Natural dyes" also sound great, but still require mordants (chemicals) to be affixed to fabrics and are not colorfast (can fade quickly).

WHY GOTS ORGANIC CERTIFICATION?

Organic certification assures the buyer what they are buying and adds credibility to the final product. With all the interest and demand now for organic bedding, there's a lot of mis-information and bogus promises of organic products.

WHY IS POLYURETHANE USED ON YOUR ORGANIC PROTECTORS?

While the fabric is GOTS certified organic cotton jersey, the waterproof polyurethane lamination is clearly not organic. However polyurethane is the cleanest, safest, and most durable water barrier available on the market today. It is 100% waterproof, breathable, inert, free of VOCs & PVC, burns clean, and doesn't off gas or leach chemicals. At this time it is impossible to have a 100% organic mattress protector that is also 100% waterproof and can withstand regular use and laundering over a long period of time.

Organic wool mattress covers or similar products are only water resistant and will not provide 100% waterproof protection which means if there's an accident or spill, it will eventually soak through to the mattress. Ultimately, this is a question best answered by your own personal priorities and preferences. Our Pure Collection Organic Mattress & Pillow Protectors are not the right product for someone looking to maintain a 100% organic lifestyle and our company completely supports those decisions.
