Wrinkled Sheets: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Wrinkled Sheets: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

After 20 years in the industry, we understand wrinkled sheets are a common concern for many customers. We briefly touched on this topic in our previous post, Proper Care Tips to Maximize the Life of Your Sheets, but it comes up often so let’s explore in more detail with the most often asked questions.

DO YOUR COTTON SHEETS WRINKLE?

The short answer is YES, as most natural fabrics do.

Cotton has been a timeless and favorite bed linen textile for many reasons including: breathability, durability and ease of laundering but it is known to wrinkle. The amount of wrinkling can vary, and typically we see higher thread counts wrinkle less than lower thread counts from being more densely woven which helps resist wrinkles from setting as easily.

HOW DO I REMOVE WRINKLES FROM MY BED LINENS?

There’s several ways to reduce bed sheet wrinkles. You don't have to use every method below so experiment and see what works best. If you know of additional tricks, let us know!

-Use your dryer's wrinkle guard or steam option if available
-An alternative to a wrinkle guard is tossing dried linens back into the dryer with heat and a few ice cubes to create steam
-Load your dryer only half full and remove linens promptly when the drying cycle is complete
-While still warm, put on the bed immediatly and mist with water or wipe with a damp washcloth then smooth out
-You can also try removing from the dryer just before completely dry and put on the bed while slightly damp to help release wrinkles

WHAT ABOUT "WRINKLE FREE" COTTON?

“Wrinkle-free”, “easy-care” and “permanent press” sheets should be avoided if you’re concerned about fabric that has been treated with chemicals. Formaldehyde resin is a toxic chemical that is used to create "wrinkle free" cotton and does not wash out. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen after high or prolonged exposure. As a company, our ethical stance is to not add harmful chemicals to our bedding. All of our bedding is proudly formaldehyde free.

WHAT ARE GOOD LOW WRINKLE BEDDING OPTIONS?

We offer TWO beautiful low wrinkle bedding options. Our certified Tencel® linens from our Terra Collection -OR- the luxurious Cotton Sateen in 618 Thread Count from our Luxe Collection. Both are low wrinkle naturally and proudly sewn in the USA.
